I have a Pavilion 5t-eg200 notebook that is only showing a black screen when I try to turn it on. It was recently upgraded to WIndows 11 Pro from Windows 10 Pro but it was working fine for a period of time after the upgrade and I do not think the two things are related.
When the power button is pressed the LED light turns on solid, the fan spins, and it seems like the CPU is generating heat (ie doing something) but the screen does not turn on and the indicator light on the Caps Lock key will not turn on.
These are the things I have tried so far:
- Holding the power button (power light turns off as expected and back on when pressed again but no screen)
- Connected external monitor via HDMI (no signal message)
- Removing the battery
- Reseating memory--tried each card in either slot (do not have compatible memory on hand to test different cards)
- Held windows key + B while turning on
- Reseating the LCD connection to the motherboard
- Hard reset by removing battery and power adapter and holding power button for 30+ seconds
None of these things have prompted any change in behavior. I do not hear an beeps or noises when the computer starts and there are no visual indicators aside from the LED on the power button. Any ideas for other things I can try? This laptop is barely a year and a half old. TIA

Here's a video from HP Support about troubleshooting a laptop that does not power on or hold a charge:

Hi WAWood,
Thank you for providing that link. I do not think the issue I am experiencing is power related. When plugged in, the power indicator light illuminates solid white. Removing the battery has had no effect on the issue. I have not had the opportunity to test with another AC adapter or battery and the computer will not boot so I cannot get into the hardware diagnostics software so it's hard to say for sure.

Without being able to run diagnostics, you have no real way of finding out what is wrong with it.
If you take it to a local laptop repair shop, there may be something they can do as they will have access to the laptop, something we do not have.
