Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently, my father-in-law updated his bios.  He has pavilion laptop and said he wasn’t paying attention and clicked on update and then then the black screen.  I have tried all the resets with battery, unplugging and pressing the power button, connecting to an external monitor, and removing the RAM.  Nothing worked that HP has online.  I believe I have a motherboard that is bad. This is because if I take the same RAM and SSD out of pavilion and put it in my NUC it boots up with no issues. If I take the SSD and RAM out of my NUC (which I know are good) and put in pavilion, I get nothing but the cooling fan turning on. Just trying to make sure I’m correct here.

A faulty BIOS will cause the problems you are experiencing, not just a faulty motherboard.

You can try restoring the BIOS using these instructions:  HP Notebook PCs - Restoring the BIOS | HP® Customer Support

Good Luck
