Solved!

CQ61-427SA Corrupt Bios, HP Support Website does not have any BIOS files for this Model.

Presario CQ61
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi All,

Corrupt Bios on Presario CQ61 with a black screen on boot and flashing CAPS and NUM lock. Have attempted to recover with a power reset and BIOS recovery during boot ("Win+B" and "Win+V"). Next step is to attempt a BIOS recovery using an extended storage device however there is no BIOS file available for this model on the HP support website.

Product    WH599EA#ABU

Any help very much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi:

HP retires support for PCs that are 10 or more years old which is why you cannot find any info on your notebook from HP anymore.

Below are the links to the info and exe files for the last BIOS update HP released for your notebook...

Thanks Paul,

This is what I was after. One quick question, when I move the extracted files onto the BIOS recovery drive is it correct that I should rename the .fn file to a .bin with the first four characters remaining (i.e 363FF15.fn to 363F.bin).

Cheers

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I have no experience with how to recover a corrupt BIOS, so I recommend that you start a new topic regarding the specific steps to do it.
