Notebook 15-ba016AU
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I turned the computer on and couldn't boot. Went through the diagnostics and gave me this number,

Failure ID: GTSD4J - 8BA9SC - XD7X6K - 60WJ03

But I cannot find the meaning in the net search.

Please I need urgent help because I've got lots of data for work and school in there.

Thank you a lot who ever you are.

Hi:

Below is the failure report generated by the code you posted, minus your notebook's serial number.

You will need to install a new hard drive, and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

You may want to consider replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

After you replace the drive, using another Windows PC with W7 64 bit or newer, use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

After you remove the failed hard drive, you can try to recover data from it buy purchasing a SATA to USB adapter cable.

Plug one end into the drive and the other end into a working PC's USB port and see if you can read/copy your files from the failed drive to the PC.

Something like this...

Thank you Paul, you're magic.

The flash drive definition went through well. Followed the video tutorial. But once in the computer with the new SDD installed (followed your advice. Samsung 870, 1T ) the system entered a loop and was loading and reloading the tool.

The tutorial says to keep the flash drive in, but after several attempts, I turned the computer on without it and finally started "loading", as displayed in the tutorial. It appeared doing its job, even with the intro picture of the cave but, again, at the very end an error message appeared asking to choose "ok" (only option) to finish. After doing so the computer shut off.

Turn it on again, enters in the same loop with the same finale.

Following 3 attempts/loops, I decided to insert the flash drive back in, after the "loading" process started. The process was then longer but at the end another short message stated (with a  !  in a triangle) that the tool ended. After choosing "ok" the computer went into BSOD.

Please, now what?

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with why the Cloud recovery tool isn't working.

I would have tried the same things you did.

However, you should be able to clean install W10 my making a bootable USB W10 installation flash drive using the media creation tool from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Since the W10 product key is in the BIOS, you won't need it to install W10.

No doubt the cloud recovery tool probably created a few partitions on the hard drive, so I recommend when you get to the part of the installation that asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the SSD, leaving just one partition of unallocated space.  Click Next, and W10 should install.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
