Solved!

Change hard drive to M.2

ProBook 470 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP ProBook 470 G4CI7 64 bit with Windows10. Can I add a 250GB Type 2280 SSD Crucial MX500 M.2 and put the operating system on it, and use the current hard drive just for storage?

You're very welcome.

That would be the easiest thing to do.

Hi:

According to chapter 1 of the service manual, that model did not come with dual drive configurations.

So, all I can suggest is you can give it a try and see what happens.

The notebook will always want to boot from the 2.5" drive when there is an operating system installed on it, so you will need to remove Windows from the 2.5" drive.

What I would suggest you do is to temporarily disconnect the hard drive, and confirm the SSD boots up with Windows installed.

Then reconnect the hard drive and remove the OS from it.

Below is the link to the service manual.

Thanks for your reply. As I am just after a quicker boot, Would it be easier to replace the drive with a cloned SSD?
