Hi @Legacy69,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your Chromebook has frozen and is making 2 beeps occasionally, and you've already tried standard resets without success, you might be dealing with a more serious issue. Here’s a comprehensive guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Identify the Beep Code
- Check Beep Code Meaning: The beeps can sometimes indicate specific hardware issues or errors. Refer to your Chromebook’s manual or the manufacturer’s support site to find out what the 2-beep code signifies. Some Chromebooks use beep codes for diagnostic purposes.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Power Off Completely: If you haven’t done so already, perform a hard reset:
- For Non-Convertible Chromebooks: Hold down the Refresh key (a circular arrow) and the Power button simultaneously until the device turns off. Release the keys when the screen goes black. Press the Power button again to turn the Chromebook back on.
- For Convertible Chromebooks: Press and hold the Refresh key and the Power button until the device turns off. Release the keys, then press the Power button to restart the Chromebook.
3. Remove External Devices
- Disconnect Peripherals: Unplug any external devices connected to your Chromebook, such as USB drives, external keyboards, or mice. Sometimes peripherals can cause conflicts or issues.
4. Check Battery and Power Supply
- Ensure Proper Charging: Make sure the Chromebook is charging correctly. Connect the power adapter and let it charge for a while. Sometimes a completely drained battery can cause freezing issues.
- Inspect the Power Adapter: Check the power adapter and cable for any visible damage.
5. Try Recovery Mode
- Enter Recovery Mode: If a hard reset doesn’t work, try entering recovery mode:
- Power Off: Ensure the Chromebook is completely powered off.
- Enter Recovery Mode: Press and hold the Esc key and the Refresh key, then press the Power button. Continue holding Esc and Refresh until you see a recovery screen. Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with recovery options.
- Create Recovery Media: If you have access to another computer, you can create a Chromebook recovery media using a USB drive or SD card. Download the Chromebook Recovery Utility from the Chrome Web Store and follow the instructions to create recovery media.
6. Perform a Factory Reset (Powerwash)
- Access Recovery: If you can access recovery options, you may attempt a factory reset (Powerwash):
- Press and Hold Keys: Press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R while in recovery mode, then click Restart.
- Confirm Powerwash: Follow the prompts to perform a factory reset. This will erase all local data, so ensure you have backups if possible.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
