How do I wipe & reboot my notebook. Just got back from ex friend & want to upgrade & use for myself ??

If you are lucky the original recovery partition is still intact see the tutorial here:

If the HP recovery does not work you would have to get your hands on a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OEM disk or a copy of the HP restore disk set for your computer. HP no longer offers it but you can perhaps get it from 3rd party vendors.

I was going to install windows 10 if possible. I didn't see why not since I was re booting anyway.

Did you ever have Windows 10 on it? If so very easy to reinstall. If not you will have to buy it. The free upgrade ended some time ago.

Yeah I know. I waited and waited for it, ( almost 5 months), then before it came my windows phone evaporated into history. Guess I'll have to pay the ransom. If I do I should get an easy clean start right ?

Not necessarily. The laptop might be a little old to run Windows 10.
