Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My granddaughter dropped her Laptop. Now when you turn it on it comes up with a Smart hard drive error. Could it be a cable or something  else lost contact or is the hard drive toast? Any suggestions would be appreciated the failure ID is 64V9A3-8SD9N3-XD7URG-60AS03. Thank you for your help.

Hi:

The failure ID reported, Hard Disk 1 SMART Hard Drive Detects Imminent Failure, means the hard drive is about to fail, or has failed, needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

If it was a loose cable, there would have been a no boot device detected error.

Below is the link to the service manual for the notebook.  The hard drive R & R procedure can be found in chapter 6.

You may want to consider replacing the mechanical hard drive with a better performing, normally more reliable solid state drive (SSD).

You should be able to reinstall W10 by using the cloud recovery client utility.

Here is the info link for how to do that...
