HP Pavillion 11-k128ca. Win10 64 bit.
Failed Startup (Short DST : FAILED)
Failure ID : 9gcf2x-822a87-gxgk61-60st03
Any Hope? Or, the hard drive unreadable?
Would a Windows repair booting from a Media Creation Tool USB be of any use?

Hi:
Here is the report generated by the failure ID code you posted, minus your notebook's serial number.
9GCF2X-822A87-GXGK61-60ST03 | OK | XXXXXXXXXX | 9/19/20 | 303 | Storage | Floppy Drive, Hard Drive, Memory Drive, Optical Drive, SCSI, Tape Drive | Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure |
The report indicates that the hard drive has failed, a new one needs to be installed as well as the operating system.
Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.
It is highly unlikely that you can recover data from the drive, but after you remove it, you can purchase a SATA to USB cable, plug one end into the failed drive and the other end in to a PC's USB port and see if you can read/copy the files you want onto a PC.
Something like this...
You may want to consider replacing the mechanical hard drive with a better performing, normally more reliable 2.5" solid state drive.

I booted up using a Linux USB. It did recognize another USB drive, but not the hard drive 😞 I'm thinking that I'm stuck with the old "put the HD in the freezer trick" and hope. I hope that the difficult process of removing the HD doesn't damage anything, so that, should the freezer trick fail, I can at least resuscitate the present doorstop.
