Hi @Tolew,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP Pavilion 14 laptops typically do have a CMOS battery, The CMOS battery is responsible for maintaining the system's clock and storing BIOS/UEFI settings even when the main battery is removed.
If your laptop hasn't been used for a year and the main battery is dead, it's possible that the CMOS battery has also depleted, which could result in issues like being unable to boot into the BIOS or getting any display.
Here are some steps you can take.
Locate the CMOS battery:
- It's usually a coin cell battery, and it might be located on the motherboard. In many laptops, accessing the CMOS battery involves removing the bottom panel or keyboard.
- Refer to your laptop's service manual or documentation for instructions on finding and replacing the CMOS battery. If you don't have the manual, you can usually find it on the HP website.
Try a hard reset:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the main battery (if it's removable).
- Hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter (make sure it's the correct one for your laptop) and try to power on the laptop.
Check the power supply:
- Make sure the power adapter is working correctly. You can try using a different one if available.
- Ensure that the power jack on the laptop is not loose or damaged.
Inspect for physical damage:
- Check for any signs of physical damage, loose connections, or burnt components on the motherboard.
Keep in mind that if the CMOS battery is integrated into the main battery pack, you might need to replace the main battery to resolve the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi thanks for the reply, tried different compatible power supplies and hard reset, have taken laptop apart and know what the cmos battery looks like but can't find it, you say typically they have a cmos battery can you not confirm if it has or has not got a cmos battery or where it is on the mother board
Thanks in advance
