HP G62t-250 CTO Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have had this laptop for over 10 years. I have the administrator password but I completely forgot my login password for my main account. I cannot figure out how to access my main account.

@RandomRoaming, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've forgotten the login password for your main user account on your HP G62t-250 CTO Notebook PC, but you still have access to the administrator account. Since you're running Windows 7, there are a few ways to reset your user password using the administrator account.

Option 1: Reset Password Using Administrator Account

If you can log in to the Administrator account, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Administrator account.
  2. Click on Start > Control Panel > User Accounts.
  3. Select Manage another account.
  4. Click on the account for which you forgot the password.
  5. Choose Change the password.
  6. Enter a new password and confirm it.

You should now be able to log in to your main account using the new password.

Option 2: Use Safe Mode to Access Administrator (if not visible)

If you don’t see the Administrator account on the login screen:

  1. Restart your PC and press F8 repeatedly before the Windows logo appears.
  2. From the Advanced Boot Options, select Safe Mode.
  3. Log in as Administrator (this account may not have a password).
  4. Follow the steps in Option 1 to reset your main account password.

 Tips

  • After resetting the password, consider creating a password reset disk to avoid future lockouts.
  • If you don’t have access to any administrator account, you may need to perform a system recovery, but this will erase your data.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
