Hi @HARISHMAJJI,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The issue you're experiencing with your HP 15.6 Inch Laptop PC 15-D5000 (4V9Y1AV) where the desktop icons appear plain white could be related to the graphics driver or the icon cache becoming corrupted. Here's a step-by-step solution to address this problem:
Step 1: Update Graphics Driver Software and Drivers for HP 15.6 inch Laptop PC 15-d5000
Open Device Manager:
- Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
Locate Display Adapters:
- Expand the Display adapters section to see your graphics card.
Update Driver:
- Right-click on your graphics card and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.
Step 2: Clear Thumbnail Cache
Open Disk Cleanup:
- Press Win + S, type Disk Cleanup, and select it from the search results.
Select Drive:
- Choose the drive where Windows is installed (usually C:) and click OK.
Clean Thumbnails:
- In the Disk Cleanup window, check the box next to Thumbnails and click OK to delete them.
Step 3: Check for Windows Updates
Open Settings:
- Press Win + I to open Settings.
Navigate to Updates:
- Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
Check for Updates:
- Click Check for updates and install any available updates.
Step 4: Perform a Clean Boot
Open System Configuration:
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
Selective Startup:
- In the General tab, select Selective startup and uncheck Load startup items.
Disable Services:
- Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all.
Disable Startup Items:
- Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager Disable all startup items.
Restart PC:
- Restart your PC and see if the issue persists.
Step 6: Restore Default Icons
Right-click Desktop:
- Right-click on the desktop and select Personalize.
Change Desktop Icons:
- Go to Themes and click on Desktop icon settings.
Restore Defaults:
- Click Restore Default and OK.
