Computer was working fine, besides windows updates crippling the GPU (revert back to old drivers)
The laptop immediately goes to grey screen.
System recovery loads to grey screen
Booting from a usb recovery tool loads to grey screen
I can enter bios and change settings. Screen works.
Hard drive passed test
Memory test started and then I cancelled. assuming it's fine, going to run test later.
I've never seen a machine do this, I can't do any recovery, everything boots to a grey screen.
I've pulled the battery, held down power for 30secs (no change)
I've tried every F key . Bios menu(esc). Boot menu(f9)
Boot menu shows HD with os & usb boot win 10 all loads to grey screen.
Tried reset bios hold win key + b then power, power light comes on shows only black screen, stays in this state. Pressing the power button then repeating win key + b does nothing, stays black screen.
I've tried every single tip I can find on this useless forum.
Why is this machine stuck on a grey screen and refuses to boot?
Do I need to clear the bios and flash?
Only thing I can think of at this point.
I can post details if I get response I'm letting it charge now if I touch it again I might throw it against the wall.
Does anyone have some trick I haven't tried yet. I've never dealt with junk hp products before

The screen problem could be the laptop, so the thing to do is connect an external monitor to see if that also displays only a grey screen.
If it does, then the laptop screen is not the issue -- and with a laptop this old, there would be no warranty support from HP, so you would have to take it to a local laptop repair facility and pay them to check it out for you.
If it does not, the issue is not much better as that indicates your laptop screen is failing and needs to be replaced -- and the cost of doing that generally exceeds what it would cost to simply replace it.

Did you not read the part where I said the screen works.
I can enter the bios and change settings.
A repair center is not an option. Ive worked on dozens of machines, I've never seen an issue like this, I'm assuming this a HP product feature and why I'm torturing myself on this forum.

So, you're not even willing to TRY connecting an external monitor to see if the grey screen repeats there, right?
Yeah, I read your thread -- but all we can do here is guess, as we have NO ACCESS to your PC, so we suggest stuff that will give us MORE information.
You said the screen is grey -- is it solid grey, or it is just grey scale instead of color?
