HP 17t 512 SSD
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I power up my laptop which is one month old, I get the lock screen just fine, I click and get the login screen just fine. I log in and after a few seconds, the screen goes blank. I can see the mouse pointer but that is all. After a long time period, sometimes 10-15 minutes, it finally boots up.

If I plug in another monitor by HDMI, I get up and running fairly quickly, but if there is no other monitor, it is very slow. This just started recently. I have installed some audio programs as my job is forensic audio, but nothing out of the ordinary.

I tried changing power settings and graphic settings to see if anything would get better, but it did not.

Any help is appreciated.

HI,

Try CTRL-ALT-DEL, Task Manager , in the bottom right NEW TASK, when the window opens type Explorer.exe and hit enter - if your desktop comes up, run MalwareBytes (they have a free version), a virus scan, and see what comes up....Then reboot if same happens try running from the command prompt as Administrator the command SFC /SCANNOW

Well, your steps led me to update my video drivers and it fixed it! Evidently after the last Windows update, a lot of computers got a blank screen after login. HP created an update but evidently it didn't work well, and they removed it. I searched for it for an hour!

So anywhay thanks for your quick response as it led me to updating drivers and fixed my problem!
