HP Chromebook 14 will not boot up

HP Chromebook 14 X010WM
Chrome OS

I have an HP Chromebook 14 X010WM that simply will not boot up. When plugged in, I can hit the power button and it will flash and then straight to black. But then I can hit the power button again and it does the same thing, but like it's powering off.

I have tried the hard reboot - unplugging everything, including the power cord and holding the power button for 7 seconds and then plug back in the power and turn on. Didn't work.

Tried a new cord. Nope. Still acts the same.

I'm thinking about replacing the battery (it's not one with a simple removeable one sadly), but wanted to see what you guys think first before I dish out money on a replacement battery to find out it's completely dead. I am a second owner of it, as my friend gave this to me to see if I can get it to work again. She did mention it was dropped but nothing too drastic or even a heavy drop (supposedly a short drop of about a foot onto carpet). She never could get it work since the drop. It is out of warranty (by a little over a year).

HP Chromebook 14 will not boot up

@ipixeldot

Welcome to the HP Forums. I would be happy to help you with your HP Chromebook - 14-x010wm. I understand that your notebook does not boot and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Run a quick test to check for hardware failures.

Follow the procedure mentioned under Run quick test in the article.

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly, about once every second.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click Quick Test.
  • Click Run once.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component are shown on the screen.

If the test shows any error, it should be a hardware issue.

Please contact HP Phone support for further assistance on this.

I hope it helps and if you feel I have answered your question and concerns,

Please mark this post as a solution accepted and Kudos would also be appreciated.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply and understand the situation well.

  • Remove external devices.
  • Perform a hard reboot.
  • A hard reboot can resolve many Chromebook startup issues. Follow these steps to perform a hard reboot.
  • Turn off the computer.
  • Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and media cards.
  • Disconnect the AC power adapter. If the Chromebook features a removable battery, remove the battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for at least 7 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC power adapter.
  • If you removed the battery, do not reconnect it at this time.
  • Turn on the computer.

Click here to refer the document and perform troubleshooting steps mentioned above to fix this issue.

HP Chromebook 14 will not boot up

Nope. Did that after I tried the other method already. Still acts the same, although the light screen stays up a second or so longer. But not really much of a difference.
