HP Elitebooki 820 G1
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

In August 2021 I bought a second-hand HP Elitebook 820 G1 from a company advertising on ebay UK. It was supplied with a locked BIOS which has not been a problem for me however, I bought an unlocked BIOS jst in case I needed to replace the locked BIOS.

The laptop worked fine and was last used without a problem in mid-November 2023. In  mid December I tried to power it up and add music files to my collection. It failed to complete the boot process and did not display anything on the screen.

The LEDs on the Power button, Num Lock, wi-fi and loudspeaker button all emit a repeating single short flash).

The four LEDs on the front edge also flash as follows:

LED 1 - Orange - 1 Long flash.

LED 2 - White - 1 Long flash (in time with LED 1).

LED 3 - White, changing to Orange - Long flash.

LED 4 - Short Orange flash followed by a Short White flash.

The sequence above continues to repeat until the laptop is forced off with a long press on the power button.

Having for Googled for information and watched Youtube videos I have tried removing the battery and a long press of the power button, plus reseating the RAM modules and SSD. After reconnecting the battery and/or the AC adapter and pressing the power button the symptoms remain unchanged.

Is this an indication of failed/corrupted BIOS or could it be something else?

Is it worth replacing the BIOS with the new (unlocked) one I bought?

Thoughts and suggestions welcomed.
