The laptop will not randomly reboot if it isn't touched, however the slightest bump (even just typing on the keyboard) and it hard reboots. Obviously, there is a short or broken trace somewhere, but what would be the most likely culprits?
This is a personal laptop but I do repair laptops professionally - just thought I'd ask here before taking it apart and searching for what might be causing the problem. It's 100% repeatable. What's interesting (to me, anyway) is that sometimes you can tap on it and it won't reboot by the second or third tap...then, boom. Has anyone seen this problem and fixed it?
It does seem to be running slower overall than it should be.

Sorry no one replied sooner ... but this sounds like not only is some connection loose inside the laptop, but it is also shorting out when bumped. Otherwise, I would not think that bumping it would cause it to suddenly reboot.
The only thing to do, as you have already mentioned, is to open it up and look for the short.
