HP Envy 15-j100
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
Good morning,
I tried to update my laptop's bios today and it resultes in a failure. Can't really recall tho. On restart, the bios was recovered, and I was prompted to enter my "bios/power-on" password. Even though I enter the correct password, it gives me invalid password. In order to overcome this, I tried using the bios password decoder and entered the number sequence. However, even that didn't work and resetting it by removing the cmos doesn't work either. I tried recovering the bios with Win + B and power key. Even though the bios gets installed and verified, I'm prompted with "enter the bios password" again at boot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dave.

Hi,

Can you post the 'halt code' you receive after 3 incorrect entries - include the prefix ( eg I or i ).

Dang, sorry. I forgot to include it. It's prefixed with an 'i'.

Thank you. If you don't mind, can I ask how you computed the code? I tried it many times and never worked.

Hi,

You're welcome :generic:

Halt codes prefixed with a i use a different algorithm to create the hash - I wrote the script for these earlier in the year, but have decided against publication.

All the best,
