My grandson gave me his HP Envy laptop but he has forgotten his password. I have gone into the set up and reset the administrator password and the windows password but it will still not let me login. Is there some other way to reset the login password? He cannot find the original box the computer came in

He has to reset his password and REMEMBER the new one first. You can CHANGE password later after logon to machine using his NEW password.

Hi @jbhowser,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you've reset the administrator password and the Windows password but still can't log in, there are a few more things you can try to reset the login password on an HP ENVY laptop running Windows. Here are some additional methods.
-
Password Hint: Check if there's a password hint displayed on the login screen. Sometimes, the hint can provide clues about the password.
-
Use Another Account with Administrator Privileges: If there is another user account with administrator privileges on the laptop, you can use that account to reset the password for the locked account. Here's how to do it:
a. Log in with the other administrator account.
b. Press Win + X and choose "Computer Management."
c. Expand "Local Users and Groups" and then click on "Users."
d. Right-click on the locked user account, choose "Set Password," and follow the on-screen instructions to change the password.
-
Password Reset Disk: If a password reset disk was created in advance, you can use it to reset the password. Insert the password reset disk and follow the on-screen instructions.
-
Windows Password Recovery Tools: There are third-party password recovery tools available that can help you reset a Windows password. Some popular options include Ophcrack, PCUnlocker, and Offline NT Password & Registry Editor. These tools usually require creating a bootable USB or CD/DVD to reset the password.
-
Microsoft Account Password Reset: If the user's HP ENVY laptop is linked to a Microsoft account, you can reset the password online by visiting the Microsoft account recovery page (account.live.com/password/reset).
It's important to note that some of these methods might require advanced technical knowledge, so be careful while attempting them. Additionally, ensure you have the necessary permissions or ownership of the laptop to make these changes.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
