Hello everyone, I need advice with my HP Envy x360 15-ey0177ng (76Q81EA). After a restart it showed “Volume Corrupt. Unexpected return from initial read: Volume Corrupt, buffersize 1000” and wouldn’t boot. On power-up it dropped straight into the blue BIOS Recovery screen instead of Windows or any other Screen where i could do something.
I tried the Windows + B BIOS recovery method per HP’s instructions, waited over 20 minutes twice, but it never completed. It then asked me to use USB recovery. I created a FAT32 USB stick with HP’s BIOS Update Utility, held Windows + B again, saw a brief progress bar, and then it fell into a constant boot loop: blank screen. I waited 20 minutes here again just to be sure. I’ve tried multiple USB sticks and ports, each time waiting the full 20 minutes, but it still loops in BIOS recovery with no BIOS splash or diagnostics.
The laptop is 2 years and 4 months old, but I purchased an extended warranty just a few weeks ago, lucky me i guess. I’m not sure if the internal SSD is corrupted or if the BIOS chip itself is toast. I can’t access any BIOS setup or diagnostics. Does anyone know an alternate way to force a BIOS flash or keystroke that might bypass this loop? If the BIOS chip needs replacing, will HP cover it under my extended warranty? Any advice is appreciated.

@RainingMoon, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Try CMOS Reset
Unplug the laptop
Hold the power button for 30 seconds
Plug it back in and attempt boot again
Try Windows + V Instead of B
On some newer HP models, Win + V is used for triggering alternate recovery modes.
Hold these keys before pressing the power button.

Hi, tried that, before, but it didn't help.
In the end I contacted Customer-Support, explained my problem. Tried the same thing multiple times again and in the end i was told to send the Laptop to the HP Support Center as i cannot resolve the issue. I'd say that the BIOS Chip somehow got fried, since i was not able to boot anywhere and the Laptop was stuck, most likely, at the Power On Self Test.
Thank you for the reply. I think this thread can be closed.

You are Welcome!
Thanks for the update! Sounds like you went through all the possible troubleshooting steps before HP Support confirmed it needed professional repair.
A fried BIOS chip would definitely explain why nothing worked. I hope the repair process goes smoothly and that your laptop comes back in top shape!
Let me know if you need any help once you get it back.
We'll be archiving this case, but feel free to respond to this thread anytime to continue the conversation. 😊
Take care, and stay fantastic!
