Hi, I have a very fairly old laptop that will only turn on if I take the battery out and have the charger plugged in. My old battery died (well I think) and so I bought a new battery which initially did work and it turned on without the charger being in. However the next time I tried to turn it on, with or without the charger, it did not turn on. I tried everything, updating window updates, uninstalling the battery driver but nothing has worked. I did are hard reset and that is only when it turns on, with the battery out and charger in. Because this is a new battery does this mean there is something wrong with the laptop? Even though the battery did work when I initially put it in? Thanks in advance for your help! J

@Juls247,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Did you purchase the battery from HP?

Meanwhile, I recommend you update the BIOS from the below link and check if it helps.

Hi, unfortunately I tried to reset BIOS but I can’t even turn on my laptop now as I get the Boot Device Not Found screen. I tried another hard reset but I can’t get passed this screen.

@Juls247,

I recommend you contact support as it looks like a hardware issue.

Here is how you can get in touch with support.

1)Click on this link – www.hp.com/contacthp/

2)Select the product type.

3)Enter the serial number of your device or select let HP detect your product option.

4)Select the country from the drop-down.

5)You should see the HP phone support number or Chat option listed.

Cheers!
