When you tried that, did you hear any beeps from the computer or any abnormal noises?

It was really easy to fix. Unplug the pc and remove the battery from it. Then hold the 'on' buttonn down for 60 seconds ,not less. Fit the battery back in and start the pc. It should start up as normal and I have never had the same problem again. Shame I can't say the same for the keyboard!
