HP Pavilion x360 Laptop - 14-dw0521sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My daughter has an HP Pavilion x360 Laptop - 14-dw0521sa S/N [Personal Information Removed]

it is 14 months old

It had been perfect up until a few weeks ago

No physical damage, she works as a teacher and uses it every day

Suddenly the fan started running constantly and after spending a while holding the power button it eventually went off

After this it would not turn on and there was no light by the charger point (or anywhere else)

We tried another charger and measure the charge voltage at about 19V so not that

We held power key for a good while not that

Google advised to take the battery out then press the power button - we did that and hey presto it started working

1 week later it stopped again (no constant fan this time it just didn't come on in the morning)

We tried the same thing and with more google help we also removed and re-seated the RAM and SSD

We tried with only battery and no power - no different

We tried with only power and no battery - no different

We checked there was 19V inside the laptop on the end of the short cable from the charger connector so it is not the charger connector

But now it is just the same - no power light by the charge point no reaction to any buttons

We asked the local computer shop who told us he thinks its the motherboard

2 questions

1) is there anything else to try?

2) What model motherboard do we need if we decide to go that route?

many thanks

Hi@AndyRat,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We reviewed your post and I understand that the  Notebook is not Powering ON,

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps

Do you see a light at the place where the charger connects to the laptop? If yes then it indicates that the charger is all fine.

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Remove the battery out. If the battery is integrated and does not have a latch to release it then leave the battery inside the laptop.
  • Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.

F6 + Power Button

  • CMOS Rest ( combination of windows button and letter 'V' then push the power button ones and release the windows and letter 'V' after 5sec

If the laptop does not power on then please continue with the below steps:

  • Disconnect the charger and remove the battery out.
  • Connect only the battery and check if the laptop powers on.
  • Likewise, remove the battery out (if removal battery ) and connect only the charger and check if that helps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
