HP Envy x360

So I recently sent my laptop in for repair and when it returned, the pin function on home screen vanished. It only allows me to enter my Microsoft Account password in, which I do not want to do. How do I fix this? I went to the Account Settings and tried to Add a Pin but every time I clicked on it, it asked me what my pin is. I try entering it but nothing happens after. I do not know what to do and how to get the pin function back on my home screen.

@tkadakia

Thank you for joining HP Forums.

I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand you are unable to set up a PIN password to login,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you have to create a new account and set up your PC after you got it back from HP?
Or did you have your data & profile saved when you turned it on after you got it back?

Which program are you referring to? is it the windows PIN or the HP Simple save?

Which OS do you have installed?

If it's the windows password, and you created a new account and setup the PC as one would post OS re installation follow the below steps:

  1. Click Start , and then click Settings .(Win10)

  2. Click Accounts.

  3. Click Sign-in options.

  4. In the PIN area, click Add.

  5. Type your password in the password box, and then click OK or Sign in, depending on your account type (local or MSA).

  6. Type in a PIN, confirm it, and then click OK.

    Figure : Entering the PIN
    Entering the PIN

  7. Your account PIN is set up, and you can use it to sign in.

If that doesn't work or you had your data/user profile when you got the PC back from HP:

CLICK HERE FOR STEPS AND INSTRUCTIONS TO CHANGE ACCOUNT TYPE TO AN ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT and then try the above steps again

(by the end of this document, all the issues should be resolved)

I have a few more tricks up my sleeve if this doesn't work, so make sure you get back to me 😉

That said, If I have helped you resolve the issue,

Feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon

Followed by clicking on 'Accepted as Solution'

And Have a great day ahead!
