HP Recommended

Went to start HP ProBook 450. Would not start. This machine has never had so much as a hiccup. Researching problem suggest battery. As soon as battery makes contact a high pitched squeal begins. Black screen, no fan, no hard drive. One remedy suggest update BIOS. But how do you do that with no start ? Ordered new battery, of course does same.. charger is putting out correct voltage. I'm mystified. Please advise.
