I have an Specter x360. The factory battery was not working well so I replaced it with on new OEM battery. Now, if the laptop is started when it is plugged in, it starts and runs perfectly. I can unplug the charger and it continues to work perfectly.
However, if I try to start the laptop when it is not plugged in, it will get to the Windows login screen and completely shuts down. The battery is at 96% charge level so that is not the problem. I thought that there may be some software issue so I did a full fresh new install of Windows 11 and made sure everything was updated. That did not fix the problem so I am left to think this is a hardware issue, perhaps in the BIOS. I have seen many others with this same issue on the boards, but I have not found any solutions.
Thank you for the help!

Hi @kentmcneill,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you've taken some proactive steps in troubleshooting the issue with your HP Spectre x360. Since you've already performed a fresh install of Windows 11 and ensured that everything is updated, and the problem persists, it's possible that there could be a hardware-related issue, as you've suggested.
Here are a few additional steps you can take to further diagnose and potentially resolve the problem.
- BIOS Update: Check if there is a BIOS update available for your laptop on the official HP support website. Sometimes, firmware updates can address compatibility issues and improve system stability.
- Power Settings: Verify the power settings in the BIOS and Windows. Ensure that there are no conflicting settings that might cause the laptop to shut down unexpectedly when running on battery power.
- Battery Calibration: Perform a battery calibration. This involves fully charging the battery and then letting it discharge completely. This process helps the laptop accurately gauge the battery's capacity.
- Driver Updates: Make sure all device drivers, especially those related to power management and battery, are up to date. Check HP's official website for the latest drivers for your specific laptop model.
- System Diagnostics: Run built-in system diagnostics tools provided by HP. These tools can help identify hardware issues and provide more information about the problem.
Remember to back up your important data before making any significant changes to the system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thank you for the reply. This is what I have done.
The bios is updated to the most current available from HP.

I have gone over the power settings. Even with a full battery, the laptop shuts down as soon as windows loads. I have even done a fresh install of windows 11 and it continues to shut down.

I have done a battery calibration both automatically and manually per HP support recommendations.
