HP Spectre Folio - 13-ak0013dx screen blinks/flicker and then goes black

HP Spectre Folio - 13-ak0013dx screen blinks/flicker and then goes black.  Power cycle and sometimes it comes back and works for a bit, then the desktop locks up (pushing any keys >non-responsive) and have to power cycle.  After power cycle, lights blink etc but screen is black.  **Notable -cap lock key blinks 5 times slow and then 3 times fast after pushing power button.

Not sure when pushing power button if laptop is rebooting or just going into sleep mode and then booting back to the desktop, this is important because I would like to get into the BIOS, but can't if the laptop isn't fully rebooting.

Plugged usb hub with external display, but not getting auto detect with 2nd display.
