HP Stream laptop only starts sometimes and most times it goes to Preparing automatic repair turns of

Hi Have a HP stream laptop that was given to my kids as a gift(hand me down).  In the last few weeks it had started to freeze during watching netflix etc and would only turn off by holding down the power button.  Aside from that, sometimes it would not start up at all, then after some googling I saw to hold down F2 on boot to re-boot in safe mode, which worked most times, but now, when I try to start it, it goes to the Hp logo with preparing automatic repair for a few seconds before turning off again.  My eldest was also using this for a project with everything saved here so I'm hoping this is not all lost!

Hello, I recommend you to execute an hardware test in your computer. For this, restart your computer by tapping F2 when it is been down for restart. You come in HP Hardware Diagnostic Interface and can execute all tests. If you have a fail please tell us.

Thank you for your suggestion.  However, my issue is that I cannot get the laptop to start now, even if safe mode, it only goes as far as preparing automatic repair, then switches back off

Hello, for execute the test, you need to power off your PC. If you can't power off, press your Power button during 30 seconds. And when your PC is powered off, power on taping F2 key. You need to go to the Diagnostic Tool.
