Bought 5 days ago. Died after selected update and shut down In power menu. Been through attempts to fix with HP support. No success. Planning to take it back to retailer for refund but concerned about the fact I already had private files on it that transferred from old PC. Any one else been inthis position? Note - HP support offered to repair but disagree that hardly used expensive laptop should need repairing in the first place. Poor quality if this is the case.

Hi @LBUK,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear that your HP Envy 17 laptop died just after 5 days of use. It's unfortunate when such issues occur with new devices. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem.

  • Power cycle: Disconnect the laptop from the power source, remove the battery (if possible), and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds. Then reinsert the battery (if applicable) and try turning it on again.
  • Check power connections: Make sure the power adapter is properly connected to both the laptop and the power source. Sometimes, loose connections can cause power-related issues.
  • Charging time: If the battery was completely drained, it may take some time for the laptop to charge before it can power on. Plug in the laptop and let it charge for at least an hour, then try turning it on again.
  • External devices: Disconnect any external devices connected to the laptop, such as USB drives or peripherals. Sometimes, a faulty device can prevent the laptop from powering on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
