Hi All.

I lost this laptop today after general reset It does not work any longer.

I opened the laptop and I look for the CMOS battery and I cant locate it.

It does not start no light indicating battery charge.

I am an electrical engineer retired.

This laptop was so good except the battery discharge when was off.

Please let me know how to proceed.

Thanks.

With the new laptops, you are not going to find CMOS jumpers or batteries,  Those are being phased out.

You MIGHT be able to run hardware diagnostics by pressing the Esc key repeatedly and then, when the HP Startup Menu appears, select Diagnostics (usually F2) and let it run.

If that does not work, then there is nothing more you can do by yourself -- and there is nothing we can do because we HERE have no way of diagnosing or repairing hardware problems.

You will need to have the PC physically examined in a service facility by folks that can run their own diagnostics to determine what is wrong with it.

If your PC is still under the original one-year HP warranty, or if you have purchased an extended warranty from HP and this is still valid, then having HP do this is an inexpensive option for you. In that case, you should contact HP Customer Support to see about having it repaired or replaced under warranty.

If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

If your PC is no longer under warranty, then it will cost you up front to have HP examine your PC. If you want to do that, you will have to contact an HP Repair or Service Center to see if they can examine the PC to determine the cause(s) of the problems, if it can be repaired, and an estimate of the repair costs.

Thanks.

Now I know I have a busted laptop which is not repairable, after general reset and battery removal.

I will ask the HP engineers How they keep the cmos alive If you remove the battery and the power supply from the laptop.

I hope I will have soon an answer.

Hi all.

It happened that the unit show me the battery charge green.

Now I have a cmos message ( please install operating system).  Hard disk (3F0)

The general reset caused trouble to this laptop.

Now I have to load new software.

I am lucky that I do not have to bye a new motherboard.

I hope my hard drive will be OK for loading the software.

To all please think twice before execute general reset.

I hope anyone that has a solution for the battery loosing big percentage when the the laptop is off reports here .

Hi.

The unit goes to cmos with 3 options  language hard drive  and finds no hard drive.

I tried many reboots (control alt delete)  and I tried to install new windows but the laptop said you have no hard drive.

The menu is presented with very small letters. The win 10 is useless for the hardware fix.

I never give up.

The fourth boot windows 10 64 bit came alive and remembered all my programs.

I never had this adventure with any other brand laptops. cmos is full screen and it works.

HP has to improve this poor system of recovery.

You people told me no batteries for cmos now I say the old way never had any problems like the ones I mentioned.

My lap top is done. I have only to fix the battery drain when the laptop is off.

I will never do general reset on this laptop ever.

OK.

I found the solution.

I have wd40 electrical contact cleaner I spray the socket of the electronic hard drive  and i cleaned the hard drive contacts wit a pencil eraser. That  did the trick. the windows are back.

After I inserted the hard drive and use the screw to secure it I spray again in the socket.

I will come back to tell you if it fails again.

Hi all.

The laptop works good and is very fast as it should be.

From this we learn contacts go bad.

We fix bad contacts two ways.

Fist the contact cleaner.

Second if the first method fails solder all the contacts with wires.

This I had in the past on my medical support as a master engineer to a big hospital in New York.

Hi.

This morning I installed the back cover of the laptop.

Surprise the unit failed to cmos.

I said no way.

I opened the cover and I found the cover pushes down the motherboard by the WiFi adopter causing to the ssd to lose the socket contacts. I solve it by inserting a very thin plastic material under the WiFi and the SSD  so now the motherboard in that spot can not be pushed down.

Now it works with the cover on.

We learn if the SSD is not seen by the CPU the laptop goes to cmos and never finds the SSD.

This unit is done except the battery issue.

Hi All.    Updates

The laptop is done and works good.

Some of you have an issue that the laptop is slow.

I suggest two programs from any MS system.

Cleanmgr.  and     Dfrgui.

They are on C: drive all across windows options.  XP, Win7, win 8.1,win 10.

To get them go to the C: drive  go to windows  go to system32  they there find them and send them to the desk top.

Apply them for a few times and you will see a big deference.

Your laptop or your any other PC will run much better.

Now give me your solution on battery draining issue, this has to be attacked, must be an active component all the times on that drains the battery. I am not an expert on any HP laptop but I know how to make them at there best.

Peter
