My laptop reports that the "boot device failed" on startup. I am able to run a diagnostic which gives the following error code: 94PC0C-8GX9QQ-XD7X7A-60QM03.
I know the drive is failing and needs to be replaced. I am only interested in recovering the data. Any ideas as to how I can start the machine and begin to recover data?
**Please do not respond with a suggestion to take it to a store so that they can recover the data.

Unfortunately, you are not going to be able to start the PC and recover the data.
Your chances of recovering the data with the Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure error report are slim and none.
Your only option to try and recover the data yourself, would be to remove the hard drive, purchase a sata to usb adapter, plug it into a working PC, and see if you can read and copy the data from the hard drive to the working PC.
You need a device like this...
