The laptop is having issues even after resetting the PC. When I entered the BIOS diagnostics (using Windows-V when powering up), I ran the tests and got the "failure ID PLU45A-7KPAP7-MFPWLJ-60XG03" during Hard Drive Short DST Check.

Is my HDD completely gone and have I lost all the data? How can I fix this?

Hi:

Below is the failure report generated by the code you posted, minus your PC's serial number.

Failure Information
Failure ID Tag Checksum HP Serial Number Test Date Failure Code Device Includes Error Message
PLU45A-7KPAP7-MFPWLJ-60XG03OK00000000008/19/21303StorageFloppy Drive, Hard Drive, Memory Drive, Optical Drive, SCSI, Tape DriveHard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure

You will need to install a new hard drive, and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

HP 15 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide

You may want to consider replacing the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a better performing 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).

Most likely the data on the drive cannot be recovered, but after you remove the drive, you can buy a SATA to USB cable, plug one end into the failed drive and the other end into a working PC's USB port and see if you can read/copy any data from the hard drive to the PC.

You need something like this...

Amazon.com: SATA to USB Cable, Benfei USB 3.0 to SATA III Hard Driver Adapter Compatible for 2.5 inc...
