Hello, I am having an odd issue with my brand new HP Oment 15-T. The laptop keeps freezing with the screen off and the fans at 100% speed when I let it sit. It has happened as much as 5 times in one day. It has 16gb of ram, a 1tb samsung nvme ssd, a 1tb secondary drive and a GTX 1050-TI.

I have ran all updates and troubleshooting steps. Nothing is said to be wrong.

I feel like this could be an easy fix if its not a hardware issue. Please help. Frustrated.

Welcome to HP Forums,

Let's get straight to it!

I recommend we start with performing a hard reset to refresh all PC settings: Click here for steps,

Once done, please perform an extensive hardware test using the below steps:

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.

  4. Click Extensive Test.

  5. Click Run once, or Loop until error.

While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

  6. If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) and let me know about the same.

Keep me posted, as I (Or a trusted colleague) shall follow-up on this case to ensure the concern has been addressed,

And your device is up and running again, only in case you don't get back to us, first!

That said, If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us, and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hello as an update, the problem keeps persisting. I have run every hardware test including memtest86 and there are no failures presenting themselves. The computer only seems to freeze when its locked. I am getting really frustrated as I have only had this laptop 1-2 months now. For something I paid so much for I shouldn't be having these types of problems..

Any ideas welcomed

@law242 If all the tests have passed, it confirms that there are no hardware issues with your device, it seems to be a software related issue and I recommend you create a backup of all personal data, and start a new user account to check if the issue occurs on it, if it does, you may want to reset the windows using the instructions mentioned in this link: Click here.

Keep us posted. Although, I hope that answers your query,

If it did, simply select "Accept as solution", to help the community grow,

Have a great day ahead.

Hello The issue is definitely not resolved. I found that the f08 firmware causes the issue worse than the f07.

I just cannot believe with all the money I paid for this that it does this and there is not a solution to it. Please help.

I am a network and system administrator and Have tried all different kinds of tests on it and cannot find a good reason it is doing this.

Is there a way to lock the updates so it cannot just update to f08 without me knowing? Ill be rolling that update back for the second time now.

@law242 Did you attempt the steps to reset the windows as suggested in the last link I shared with you? If not, please do the same as it should remove any corrupt system files that could be causing this issue and the new files (after reset) shouldn't have these issues as it would be working fine.
