Omen 17 laptop (I own this laptop, the pulldown menu doesn't work))

The light in the on/off key turns on -  then a few seconds later turns off.  I've removed and reinstalled the battery,

and I've help the power button down for 2 to 3 minutes. Nothing is working.

Hi @Max-Coyote-S,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing some issues with your HP Omen 17 laptop. If the power button light turns on and then off after a few seconds, it could indicate a hardware or power-related problem. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

Check the Power Adapter:

  • Ensure that the power adapter is working properly. You can test it by using a multimeter to check the voltage output.
  • Try using a different power outlet to rule out issues with the outlet.

Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the laptop from the power source.
  • Remove the battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try turning on the laptop.

Memory (RAM) and Storage:

  • Sometimes, faulty RAM or storage can cause boot issues. Try reseating the RAM modules or using a spare if available.

External Devices:

  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, external hard drives, etc.) and try booting the laptop.

BIOS/UEFI Update:

  • Check if there's a BIOS/UEFI update available for your laptop on the HP support website. If so, try updating the BIOS.

Boot in Safe Mode:

  • If your laptop is not booting into Windows, try booting in safe mode. This can help identify if a driver or software issue is causing the problem.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
