Spectre Folio 13
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Has anyone found a way to wake the Spectre Folio when it is in tablet mode with the screen laying flat?  The only way I've found so far is by pressing the power button which, in that configuration, is covered up.  I've tried touching / swiping on the screen in various ways but haven't had any luck.

@SenorGeek Did you try double tapping the touchscreen to check if it wakes up, if not, I suggest you do and also ensure you've updated the BIOS, Chipset and Graphics card using the HP website: Click here to find and install the same,

Once done, restart the computer and check if it works.

If the above doesn't help, try the below steps:

f you want to change the Double-Tap settings, type power shell in the windows search bar using the windows button and type the following: {80F3F1D5-FECA-45F3-BC32-752C152E456E} and select the Tab Other in the Tablet PC Settings.
Please click the text Go to Pen and Touch, select Double-Tab and change the Settings!

If this doesn't help either, please restart again and check if the touchpad could be used to your advantage using the steps mentioned here

Let me know how that pans out,

Are you just guessing, because this is a response that has been floating around for a couple of years for various devices.

At any rate, those things didn't help.  I had already tried most of it having seen similar posts in response to situations like this on other devices.  I'm not certain this is possible on this device.  The user guide doesn't mention screen touching as an option to wake the device.  I just threw the question out there in case someone who actually owns a SpectreFolio might have stumbled upon something or an HP employee might have information, one way or the other, specific to this machine.

@SenorGeek I didn't guess, that's just a few steps that have helped customize the settings in the past to help resolve similar issues, that said, I looked into the user guides as well and here's what I see:

You can exit Sleep (only) in any of the following ways:

● Briefly press the power button.

● If the computer is closed, raise the display (select products only).

● Press a key on the keyboard (select products only).

● Tap the TouchPad (select products only).

And you are right, this device doesn't support the feature you need, though I wish it did, I'll be happy to forward your idea/requirement to the concerned (R&D) team and they should get started on working on it, not sure how long that'll take though.

I hope that helps!

I also am curious as to how to wake the Spectre Folio from a "screen off" or "sleep" condition while it's in table mode laying flat.  Double tapping the screen or using the pen does not trigger any wake action.  It seems HP could update the software driver so that when the machine is laying flat or in the stand up tablet mode it will "sleep" the screen, but not power off the unit and when the pen comes close the screen or when there is a double tap of the screen the screen wakes back up.  I agree with others that we paid a premium price for this machine and it should be able to wake up from table mode without opening the cover to hit the power button since it was specifically design to be able to be used as a tablet.

My exact model is HP Spectre Folio Convertible Laptop 13t (Model: 3SD73AV_1)

Operating System is Windows 10 Home 1809 Build 17763.615

Hi @BWheetley,

It is a real shame. I wish I had researched this further before buying this. Every other hybrid machine I have ever had has been enabled to be woken from tablet mode.

Surely a firmware update could be sent to the machine to allow tap-to-wake or something. I was told the reason was because they disable all power to the screen to maximise battery life. I think the option should exist for the customer to decide between battery life and convenience.

Hello,

Is there any advance for this issue?

I bought my folio this month and had to admit that I was very upset about the fact that I had to lift the screen to press the power button each to wake up the device in tablet mode.

@Smogol66

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  1. Did you install any recent Windows or Bios updates that could have caused this issue?
  2. When was the last time it worked without these issues?
  3. Did you perform a system restore to an earlier working date?

While you respond to that, please follow the below steps to resolve your concern:

Step 1: Enabling the Keyboard in Windows

Skip this step if the computer does not enter sleep mode or if the computer wakes unexpectedly.

Follow these steps to enable your keyboard to wake your computer from sleep mode:

  1. In Windows, search for and open the Device Manager.

  2. Click the arrow next to Keyboards and double-click the name of your keyboard.

  3. If the Power Management tab is available, proceed to the next step.

If the Power Management tab is not available, click the Change Settings button if it appears below the Device status box. The same Keyboard Properties window opens with the Power Management tab available.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  1. Click the Power Management tab and make sure that the box next to Allow this device to wake the computer is checked.

  2. Click OK, and then test to make sure that the keyboard can now wake the computer. If the computer still cannot wake from sleep mode, continue using these steps.

  3. For instructions on how to update the BIOS of your computer, see one of the following HP support documents: Updating the BIOS (Notebooks)

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo_Lake,

Thanks four you reply.

I tried your approach:

1. First of all; there are 4 entries with the same name (" Périphérie clavier PIH" sorry I am french speaking 🙂 ) , only one has the power management tab and I could indetify it as my logitech mouse. BTW: it will wake up my Folio... but this is not the main issue.

My concern is to be able to wake up my folio witout always fidle with the mouse.

One of the best things could be to use the double tap on the screen but I can't manage to make it work...

I found a workarround using Tilt-Pen, but even then, I have to ensure that the device is ON and I can only wake my Folio when the pen is connected usind the Bluetooth and press the top button to start any "ink-application". The backslash with this, is that it will drain the battery of the pen very quickly.

As information: all my bios are udated, event the firmware on my pen.

A good way will be to post a video showing the steps to make it clear on how to proceed

Thanks in advance four your reply.
