Laptop stuck in endless "Cannot open image file bios loop"

After latest windows update, laptop gets BSOD Driver power state failure. on trying to access repair tools  through startup repair it's stuck in this endless loop of trying to update the bios. I don't know when this was downloaded but hadn't seen this for weeks.

I tried to restore to a system restore point, but this has not solved the issue, in fact it's now worse as the BSOD is critical process failure.

I now have an 11 month 3 week old  very expensive unusable brick which is only good as a doorstop.

Is there any solution to this as I can't boot from USB to re-image due to this endless bios loop?

@Caveman38, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Let us perform a hard reset on the PC

  1. Unplug the power cable and shut down the PC.
  2. Press and hold the power button of 5-10 seconds and then release it.
  3. Connect the AC adapter, power ON the PC.

Try to recover the BIOS using the key combination

Refer to the steps mentioned in this document. If this does not help, you may create a USB recovery drive to recover the BIOS

Let me know how this goes.

Already tried these steps.

From the bios recovery drive the system goes into Bios recovery, then I get the same message "unable to read Bios image"  press enter to restart.

I have made three Bios recovery drives on Three different pc's with the same result.

That's unfortunate. If the issue persists, please contact our HP Support team for Service Options as it could be a possible hardware issue:

1) Click on this link - https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp?openCLC=true

2) Select your product type below.

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Select the appropriate option based on your preference.

6) Fill the web-form and proceed further.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Hi

When I analysed the last minidump, this also pointed to a hardware issue.

I have arranged for the laptop to be returned for repair. The problem appears to be power related, the whole issue arose from trying to solve constant BSOD problem. Due to the constant loop from the bios issue I had lots of problems getting into the recovery mode. Once recovered to the factory image the BSOD problem was still present.

I understand. However, HP Support team will be able to guide you better as this is a hardware issue with the PC.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
