HP Recommended
Pavilion beats audio

My notebook began to make a noise and then froze. I turned it off and when it switched back on the message automatic repair was being displayed.
The notebook did not move on from this so I followed the steps listed on this forum to run a quick test. The test failed citing the hard drive short DST as the reason and which failed and displayed the following code QBTU9A-7K0AA5-MFPWL1-60V003 Please can you advise me what this means?

The code is

Hi:

Below is the failure report generated by the code you posted, minus your notebook's serial number.

Failure Information
Failure ID Tag Checksum HP Serial Number Test Date Failure Code Device Includes Error Message
QBTU9A-7K0AA5-MFPWL1-60V003OKXXXXXXXXXX11/20/20303StorageFloppy Drive, Hard Drive, Memory Drive, Optical Drive, SCSI, Tape DriveHard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure

You will need to replace the drive and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

Your 15-p264na notebook originally came with W8.1 from HP.

If you let me know what operating system you were running on it before the drive died on you, I will give you the instructions for how to reinstall W8.1 or W10 for free.

Great thanks Paul. Does it matter which hard drive we install from the various options listed in the manual?

I think we had upgraded to Windows 10 not long after we purchased the device

You're very welcome.

If it were me, I would invest in a better performing, normally more reliable solid state drive (SSD.

This one in my opinion, provides the best performance for the money...this is the 500 GB model if you can live with that much storage space.

You can reinstall W10 for free by making bootable installation media using the media creation tool from the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
