For the past week I have been having some issues with my laptop, an HP Pavilion gaming laptop, model 15-ec2121nr.  One day it just seemed to spontaneously shut off when I was typing a word processing document, I'm surprised, I was able to turn it on again where it was on for several minutes, then blinked off and I wasn't able to turn it on again.  It's been down since the 12th of this month.  Now I'm worried I have a dead laptop likely due to keep it on constantly and some occasional overheating and I was wondering two questions:

1) Could you tell me is there some way to repair and restore it to working condition?  I have already tried a hard reset, not a factory reset, by unplugging the power cable, pressing and holding the laptop's power button for 15 seconds, then plugging the power cable back in.  Nothing.

2) Is there any way to save data off of the M.2 SSD that was included in there?  The reason is because that one file, and thankfully that one alone is important to me.  I was working on it for several weeks and don't want to lose it.  Or am I completely out of luck?  Someone told me that since M.2 SSDs are more directly connected to the mobo, if IT gets shot, said SSD goes with it and data becomes unrecoverable from it.  Or was I misinformed?

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It's concerning when your HP Pavilion gaming laptop, model 15-ec2121nr, suddenly shuts off and won't turn back on. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

1. Check Power Supply

  • Adapter: Ensure that the power adapter is correctly plugged in and the LED indicator is on.
  • Power Cable: Verify if the power cable is not damaged.

2. Battery Check

  • Remove Battery: If possible, remove the battery from the laptop.
  • Direct Power: Connect the laptop directly to the power adapter without the battery and try turning it on.

3. Perform Hard Reset

  • Unplug all Devices: Disconnect any connected devices and power down the laptop.
  • Hold Power Button: Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain residual charge.
  • Reconnect Power: Plug in the adapter and try turning on the laptop again.

4. Inspect for Hardware Issues

  • Overheating: Check if the laptop was overheating before shutting off. Clean the vents and ensure proper ventilation.
  • Loose Components: Ensure that there are no loose internal components such as RAM or storage drives.

5. Boot into BIOS

  • Start-up Menu: Press the power button and immediately press the "Esc" key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
  • Access BIOS: Select "F10" to enter the BIOS settings and check if the laptop recognizes the hardware components.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
