I’ve just received my new laptop. I was in process of setting it up when I got called away. I went back to it and now it wants a password which I’ve not set up yet

Sorry, but the community rules do not allow us to assist anyone with password issues.

 

This should NOT be happening on a new laptop, so the best course of action for you at present is to contact where you bought this and see what help they will provide.  If they will not help you, then you need to demand an RMA to return the laptop for a full refund.
