Hi @Notkuber,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Pavilion 14-inch laptop might be experiencing hardware or software issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the black screen problem.

Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect all external devices (e.g., USB drives, external monitors).
  • Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery if it's removable.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power adapter (and battery, if removed) and try turning the laptop on.

Check Display Connections

  • If you’re comfortable doing so, open up the laptop and ensure that the display cable is securely connected to the motherboard.
  • Sometimes, a loose connection can cause display issues.

Test with an External Monitor

  • Connect your laptop to an external monitor or TV using HDMI or another connection type.
  • If the external monitor displays correctly, the issue might be with your laptop’s internal display or graphics hardware.

Boot in Safe Mode

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Turn it on and immediately start pressing the F8 key (or Shift + F8 for some models) to access the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  • Select Safe Mode and see if the laptop boots normally. If it does, there might be a driver or software conflict causing the issue.

Update or Roll Back Drivers

  • If you can boot into Safe Mode or using an external monitor, update your graphics drivers.
  • You can also try rolling back to a previous version of the driver if you suspect an update caused the issue.

Check for Overheating

  • Ensure that the laptop’s cooling system (fans, vents) is not clogged with dust.
  • Overheating can sometimes cause the system to shut down or behave erratically.

Reseat RAM Modules

  • Power off the laptop and disconnect all power sources.
  • Open the laptop and carefully reseat the RAM modules to ensure they are properly connected.

Run Hardware Diagnostics

  • HP laptops often come with built-in diagnostics tools. You can access these by pressing Esc or F2 during startup to enter the diagnostics menu. Run a full hardware test to check for issues.

Check for BIOS Updates

  • Sometimes a BIOS update can resolve issues. Check HP’s support website for any updates for your specific model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
