Hello, I just purchased this laptop off eBay. I had read that I should be able to remove the bios battery from the laptop and let it sit for 30 minutes, replace it, and that should reset the bios and remove the password. 

Two questions- 1: will that actually work for this mb?

2: is that the easiest way to resolve this, or is there another way ? 

Predicated on the first issue being solved, for upgrading the processor from a 3630QM, what’s the fastest processor that can be put in? With any processor upgrade, what is the max memory that can be potentially installed?

Sorry, but what you read is totally wrong!  Removing the CMOS battery from a laptop does NOTHING to reset any passwords -- as the password is encoded into the BIOS chip on the motherboard and is permanent.

 

BIOS and power-on passwords are contained in the firmware that is present inside the BIOS chips -- which are soldered to the motherboard and thus, are not replaceable. So, you can't just buy a replacement chip and swap them. Also, neither your nor HP can reset the BIOS password on the current motherboard. Thus, replacement of the motherboard is required with one that has a BIOS chip that does not have a password in the firmware. This is very expensive to do and can often cost more than simply replacing the PC

If you are not prepared to spend the money to get HP to replace the motherboard, you would have to take the PC to a local repair facility to see if they can do anything for you -- but we can not assist in that in any way.
