HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab137ca (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently replaced the laptop battery. Since installing the new battery, the keyboard and touch pad don't work after waking the laptop from sleep and/or hibernation. I have to reboot to get them functional again. I have done the following-

Updated BIOS to latest version

Reset BIOS to default settings

Installed all latest Windows 10 updates

Disabled anti-virus

Removed wireless mouse

Uninstalled and reinstalled keyboard & touch pad drivers

None of the above has any effect.

Does anybody have any suggestion?

Thanks,

John

Hi@JohnnyCannuck,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! I'd like to help!

I see you are experiencing keyboard issues with the HP Pavilion Notebook after waking from sleep.

I have a few recommendations

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep and click the Additional Power Settings link on the right-hand side of the window. From there, click Choose What the Power Buttons Do, and you should see a checkbox next to Turn on Fast Startup in the list of options.
  • Try doing Reset PC Keep my files from windows and check if it works.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thank you for the response and suggestions.

I tried these and more without much success.

After some brainstorming, the only change in the system I could identify was a new battery, so I focused on that. I discovered that the problem only occurred with the new battery installed. If there was no battery or I put the old battery back, everything worked fine. The new battery itself was the problem.

I have since returned the battery and purchased a genuine HP battery (at much higher cost of course), and all is well.

Thanks again for the help.
