HP 15 P045ND
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My Laptop freezes randomly. Did all the Windows checks and started with BIOS HP diagnostics. There I did the battery check. Also there it freezes and unlike Windows it also shuts down.

Bought a replacement battery, but also this battery has the same issues.

Freezing in Windows and also during the part diagnostics in BIOS.

I removed the battery and did some full systems checks ( 4-5hours). Everything passed and was OK.

The freeze issue occurs when running on battery power and it also happens when the AC power is attached.

Now I am running the laptop on only AC power without the battery. I just removed it.

Been running for 2 days now, no issues.

So I think it is an internal issue. So when the battery is connected somethings happens in the internal circuits.

Your thoughts and advise are welcome.

Thanks Tim

@TimKlein,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Let's perform a hardware test to ensure there are no hardware malfunctions causing this issue:

  • Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  • Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  • On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
  • Click Extensive Test.
  • Click Run once, or Loop until error.
  • While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen.

If a component fails a test, write down the failure ID (24-digit code) for when you respond back to us.

If the test passes, I would suggest here is to update the Bios on your PC. You can first try to update it from our HP support website, using this link or download it using HP Support Assistant.

To download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Once done, restart the computer and check if it works.

Let me know how it goes for further assistance!

Dear Jeet_SIngh,

Thanks for the reply.

If I run the test it starts with Accu which is Dutch for Battery.

Sadly it instantly freezes and most of the times after 20 secs the laptop shuts down.

If I run the test without the battery everything passes and I see no errors.

But offcourse it did not test the battery because I took it out.

I did the test also with a new replacement battery. Same result. A freeze and crash in the PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) menu. So it is not Windows related. Because Windows is not booted yet.

I am already running the latest bios. Which in my case is f57.

Can we look further?

Tim
