Hi @Loriann35,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP 15.6 Inch Laptop PC 15 updated the system and now the screen is black and won't turn on, you can try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.
-
Hard Reset:
- Shut down the laptop completely.
- Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery (if possible).
- Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and power adapter.
- Turn on the laptop.
-
External Monitor:
- Connect your laptop to an external monitor to check if the issue is with the laptop screen or the entire system.
- If the external monitor works, the problem may be related to the laptop screen or its connection.
-
Brightness Settings:
- Sometimes, after updates, the brightness settings can be set to a very low level. Try increasing the brightness using the keyboard shortcuts.
-
Safe Mode:
- Boot the laptop in Safe Mode. If it works in Safe Mode, there might be an issue with a recent driver or software update.
- Uninstall recent updates or drivers that might have caused the problem.
-
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Access the BIOS/UEFI settings during the boot process. Check if the display settings are configured correctly.
-
System Restore:
- If possible, perform a system restore to revert your system to a state before the update.
- This can be done through the Windows recovery options.
-
Update Graphics Drivers:
- If you can access Safe Mode, update or roll back your graphics drivers. Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause display issues.
-
Recovery Options:
- If your laptop came with a recovery partition or if you have a Windows installation media, you might consider reinstalling or repairing the operating system.
Always ensure that you have a backup of important data before attempting any major troubleshooting steps.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
