HP 14 inch Laptop PC 14-d4000 (4A958AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all,

My HP 14 Laptop PC 14-d4000 (4A958AV) that I have owned for 2 months can no longer be powered on or enter the boot screen - the screen is black.

Just this morning, my laptop was switched on before I left the room for 30 minutes and it entered this state so I am unable to describe what it was like just before it changed. Before this, I was using my it to watch a movie and use the Intel Driver & Support Assistant to update its drivers.

The power light blinks white for 2 seconds then off for 4 seconds. When plugged in to a charger, the charger light blinks orange for 4 seconds then off for 2 seconds.

I have attempted to hold the power button for 15 seconds but it won't enter the boot screen.

I don't think it's an issue with charging as I have tried using two different compatible chargers in different power sockets around the house which results in the above described blinking.

The laptop does not have a removable battery as it appears I will have to screw open the bottom cover to access it.

I may have to go a support centre but there do not appear to be any in Australia. I also still have 10 out of 12 months of my consumer warranty remaining so I am open to returning it.

I appreciate any insight that may allow me to use it again. 🙂

I brought my laptop into an HP Elite Lounge. They diagnosed the problem to be a fried motherboard from either faulty wiring or overheating. They replaced the motherboard at no cost (due to my warranty), all within less than 30 minutes.
