Hi @Caturn,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP laptop suddenly locked and shut off. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue.

Check Power Supply: Ensure that the laptop's power adapter is properly connected and the battery is charged. Try plugging it into a different outlet or using a different charger if you have one.

Hard Reset: Perform a hard reset by holding down the power button for about 15 seconds. This can sometimes resolve temporary issues.

Boot in Safe Mode: If the laptop turns on but doesn't boot into Windows normally, try booting into Safe Mode. To do this:

  • Turn off the laptop completely.
  • Turn it back on and immediately start pressing the F8 key repeatedly (or Shift + F8 on some models) until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  • Select "Safe Mode" and see if Windows starts up.

Check for Overheating: Overheating can cause sudden shutdowns. Ensure that the laptop's vents are not blocked and that the cooling fan is working properly.

Look for Error Messages: If you see any error messages or codes when you try to restart the laptop, make a note of them. They can provide clues to the problem.

Check Event Viewer: Once you're able to boot into Windows, check the Event Viewer for any error messages that occurred around the time of the shutdown:

  • Press Win + X and select "Event Viewer."
  • Go to "Windows Logs" > "System" and look for any critical errors or warnings.

Update Drivers and BIOS: Sometimes updating drivers and the BIOS can resolve stability issues. Check HP's support site for updates specific to your laptop model.

Run Diagnostics: Many HP laptops come with built-in diagnostics. You can access them by pressing F2 or ESC during startup to enter the HP Support Assistant or diagnostics tool.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
