Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently, my laptop shuts down instantly after it goes to sleep.  Sometimes I can leave and come back and it will be back but other times it goes off after the first time. Once it turns off, it takes multiple presses and minutes to turn back on. The laptop is only a few months old, never been dropped and I bought for college. I have read some similar posts and have updated my BIOS, AMD graphics card drivers, Windows troubleshooting wizard and changed the battery settings. No luck. I am not sure what else there is to do.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
The hybrid sleep setting might cause an issue with sleep mode. Change the advanced power settings to disable hybrid sleep.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Control panel.

  2. In the Control Panel search field, type power options, and then select Power Options from the list.

    Selecting Power Options

  3. Click Change plan settings for the power plan that is selected.

    Changing the plan settings

  4. Click Change advanced power settings.

    Clicking Change advanced power settings

  5. Expand Sleep, and then expand Allow hybrid sleep.

  6. Select Off from the On battery drop-down menu, and then select Off from the Plugged in drop-down menu.

Selecting Off in the On battery drop-down menu

  7. Click OK.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Let's perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

And, also BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

I have already done both of these steps but still not working. Even when it just goes to sleep, it shuts down all of the programs I have open (like Word, internet, Spotify, etc.).

Let's run the System Tests which will check the hardware sub-systems to ensure they are functioning properly.

Open the System Tests menu when Windows won't start.

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. On the main menu, click System Tests.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
