Hi @Dsbauer,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop is stuck on the HP logo during boot-up, there are several troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue. Here are some suggestions.
- Restart your Laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix minor glitches. Turn off your laptop completely and then turn it back on.
- Check for External Devices: Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.) from your laptop and then try to boot it up again. Sometimes, a connected device can cause boot issues.
- Hard Reset: Shut down your laptop, disconnect the power cable, and remove the battery (if possible). Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the battery and power cable, then turn on your laptop.
- Boot into Safe Mode: Try booting your laptop into Safe Mode. To do this, restart your laptop and press the F8 key repeatedly until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears. From there, choose "Safe Mode" and see if your laptop boots successfully.
- System Restore: If your laptop was working fine before, you can try performing a system restore to revert to a previous state. You can access this option through the Advanced Boot Options menu or using a Windows installation/recovery disk.
- BIOS/UEFI Settings: Access the BIOS/UEFI settings during the boot process (usually by pressing Esc, F2, F10, or Del key). Check if the boot order is correct, and make sure the hard drive is recognized.
- Check for Disk Errors: Boot from a Windows installation or recovery disk and use the built-in tools to check for and repair disk errors. You can use the Command Prompt and run commands like chkdsk /f to check and fix disk issues.
- Reinstall or Repair Windows: If none of the above steps work, you may need to consider reinstalling or repairing the Windows operating system. You can use a Windows installation disk or USB drive for this purpose.
Remember to back up your important data before attempting any major troubleshooting steps, especially if you are considering reinstalling or repairing the operating system.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
