The HP Laptop is about 2 years old and had no issues untill yesterday. It worked perfectly fine the day before.
The problem is - when I press the power button, the fan starts and the lights come on for a split second, then it switches off immediately.
I have tried charging the battery overnight, taking the battery off and having the power cable in but nothing seems to work. The charger seems to be fine - when plugged the red "Charging" light is on and this morning it was white as if it had charged.
I cannot even get to the blue screens to check hardware etc.
Any ideas what it could be?

As I understand the computer is powering on, however, doesn't boot into windows, And it turns off after a few seconds after it's turned on,
To provide an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
What is the product number of this computer? (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
Was there any update/reset interrupted recently?
In the meantime, you perform the below steps:
Let's start by performing a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.
If the computer still turns off every few seconds, try with an alternate adapter and/or remove the battery and try turning on the computer without the battery,
only connect the adapter and start, let me know if that works.
