Hello and thanks to anyone who is willing to help me.

I'm going to try to explain my issue the most precise way posible

I have this Hp Pavilion 15-cs2015nf that I only use during vacation, so I boot it after 7 weeks of no usage.

The laptop boots just fine, takes charge but is pretty laggy. So I do a forced shutdown (yes i'm that type of guy).

That's when the laptop stopped charging (no charging light).

I've used this laptop mainly on charge (I know it's not good)

I got the charging LED error when trying the second fix (unplugging battery)

I've tried various things :

  • Testing the charger (works fine on other hps and voltage output of 20)
  • Unplugging the battey, pressing the on button for a minute then booting with or without power or battery (I'm not sure im doing that one right so if somebody could tell me the correct way it would be nice)
  • Booting without battery but with charger (doesn't work)
  • And last but not least : did a weird thing where I unplugged battery, SSD and RAM pressed the on button like earlier, plugged everything back in and the laptop turned on but still wouldn't take charge (the laptop "charged" overnight without the ligth but the blinking)

My questions are :

  • Is there a way to boot it without a battery since I mainly use it on power ?
  • And if it's a motherboard issue like described in other post then how was the laptop able to boot that one time

What I can do :

  • Unmount the laptop
  • Buy a cheap battery in case it's a battery related issue

Precision : The blinking charging LED will blink faster when I press the on button and is only on when I have the battery plugged in (not when only power)

Thank you for reading or answering

Hi @Nono290,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like your HP Pavilion 15 is facing a charging issue, indicated by the blinking LED and the inability to charge. Here are a few steps and considerations to guide you through troubleshooting.

Blazing LED Error

The 5-blink error typically indicates a battery-related issue. It suggests a problem either with the battery itself or the charging circuitry on the motherboard.

Troubleshooting Battery

  • Test with another battery: Since the laptop only shows the blinking LED when the battery is plugged in, it's possible the battery is faulty. If you have access to another compatible battery, try swapping it out and see if the charging issue persists.
  • Remove and Re-seat the Battery: If you haven't tried this, try disconnecting the battery and carefully re-inserting it. Sometimes the battery connection can get loose.

Booting Without Battery

  • Normally, you can boot most laptops directly from AC power without needing the battery. If you're still getting no response with just the AC adapter connected, the issue could be the charging port, motherboard, or power supply.

Adapter and Power Supply Check

  • Confirm Charger Output: You mentioned the charger works with other devices, but double-check the voltage output using a multimeter (it should match the specifications on the charger and the laptop).
  • AC Power Jack: Sometimes the charging port itself can have an issue. Inspect the port for any visible damage or debris.

Motherboard Issue

If your laptop was able to boot without the battery but still wouldn't charge, it might indicate an issue with the motherboard's charging circuitry. This could be a tricky fix, often requiring professional help, as it might involve replacing components on the motherboard itself.

Steps You Tried (and Improvements)

  • Battery Removal: Pressing and holding the power button after removing the battery can drain any residual power, which can sometimes reset the charging system. If you haven't done so already, try doing this for a few minutes and then attempt to boot up with just the AC adapter.
  • Disconnecting SSD and RAM: This may not directly affect charging but could help with power cycling. However, if you haven't tried a "battery reset" as mentioned, that’s an important step.

Alternative Actions

  • Replacing the Battery: If the battery has degraded significantly, it might not hold a charge and could cause the charging circuit to fail. A cheap replacement battery could confirm if this is the case.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
